3rd Annual PTA Banquet Photos

The Iberville Parish Optional Education Center was the setting of the Iberville Parish 12th    Annual Parish-wide Spelling Bee on May 3.  This year’s theme was “Spell-a-Bration”.  Children in grades 2, 3, and 4 competed by spelling a variety of words in order to bring home trophies.

All winners at heart...Students competing in the second grade competition of the 12th Annual Parish-wide Spelling Bee were: Keondrick Anderson, Keandra Bouvay, D’Lacey Christmas, Keldrick Deggs, Aldrianna Dupree, Abbie Johnson, Warneshia Mellion, Ricky Morris, Raymond Smith, Dylan Spedale, Ciara Spriggs, Michael Tran, Abby Verret, Bianco Williams and Betany Williams- Cotton. Ciara Spriggs, a student at Iberville Elementary, was the first place winner. She is the daughter of Angelon and Terry Spriggs. Abby Verret, daughter of Ernie and Vickie Verret, won second place. BUZZING TO THE TOP…Competing in the third grade competition of the Iberville Parish Spelling Bee were: Nilaja Anderson, John Armstrong, Ariel Baise, Toby Branch, Dequinton Davenport, Dongele Edgerson, Dylan Hebert, Briana Joffrion, Dwayne Junior, Nayah Lawrence, Lexie McAlister, Amber Neal, Kurison, Alexander Williams, and Kiffani Young. John Armstrong, a student at Iberville Elementary, won first place. He is the son of Patricia and Horace Minor. John’s classmate, Dongele Edgerson, won second place. She is the daughter of Angel and Donald Edgerson. They are both showing off their trophies as they are seated in the center on the first row.(photo by Candace Edwards) SPELLING CHAMPIONS…Contestants of the 2008 Iberville Parish Spelling Bee of the fourth grade level were: Kaylynn Bromfield, Jacques Comeaux, Reginald Dorsey, Nicholas Elmore, Farryan Fleming, Caylin Gotro, Mia Jeferson, Teleia Jones, Kaci LeBlanc, Akeyliah Oliver, Shaniece Saylor, Aaron Simmons, Sierra Smith, Jason Stewart and William Vaughn. The first place winner of the fourth grade competition was Jacques Comeaux, a student at East Iberville. Jacques is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Comeaux. Kaci LeBlanc won second place. She is a student at Crescent Elementary and is the daughter of Martin and Theresa LeBlanc. They are both seated with their trophies at the center of the first row.(photo by Candace Edwards)

As they were all winners at heart, each contestant was awarded medals and the first and second place winners of each level were awarded trophies.

Elvis J. Cavalier, the Executive Director of School & Community Projects, served as Master of the Ceremony. Tony Jones gave the warm welcome as Gail Edwards followed with introductions. The two are members of the Iberville Parish Spelling Contestant Committee. Kelli Barbee, also a committee member, greeted the students with the rules of the competition.

Winning second place was Abby Verret, daughter of Ernie and Vickie Verret. Abby is a student at Crescent Elementary in Mrs. Lisa Griffon’s class.

Dongele is also a student in Ms. April Collins class at Iberville Elementary and is the daughter of Angel and Donald Edgerson.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Comeaux.  Kaci LeBlanc, daughter of Martin and Theresa LeBlanc won second place. Kaci is a member of Mrs. Susan Haydel’s class at Crescent Elementary.

Lydia Canova, Diane Jones, Andrea Broussard, and Darcel Angelloz were judges of this year’s competition. Erin Gros was the announcer for the second grade competition as the announcer for the third grade competition was Kathy D’Albor. Announcing for the fourth grade competition was Natasha Basil.

Cavalier, Katherine Fontenot, Tashiba Franklin, Gail Edwards, Terry Gallagher, Gwendolyn Hall, Susan Haydel, Nazzarie Johnson, Tony Jones, Josephine Smith, Britni Landry, Tiffany Lawhon, Marilyn LeDuff, Cryister Overton, Allyson Williams, and Stella Williams. Teacher and parent volunteers were: Lisa Griffon, Crescent; Sherry Dallas, Kathleen Kinberger and Andrea Hall, Dorseyville; Kellye Carville, Jillian Carter, Donna Marion and Meshell Hill; East Iberville; Patsy Zeringue, April Collins, and Cherisse Forest; Iberville Elementary; and Karen Brooks and Doris Kinnie of North Iberville.
